After his 400km+ journey, Merzad had the attention of both foreign and domestic media and was in a position to put real pressure on the government. It would be one thing if Trudeau just lied, but the request to stop his social media posts was a clever and insidious political move.

On November 22nd, 2022 I heard a horrifying account from an Iranian living in a smaller city in the Kurdish region that paints a very clear picture: The Islamic Republic is engaging in crimes against humanity on their own people.
The point being is that most mainstream coverage of the incidents as one-sided with Israel getting the raw end of the deal and with little or no context. The news stories portray a victimized Muslim/Palestinian community during the last important days of Ramadan (the holiest month of the Islamic calendar) being attacked indiscriminately by ‘wicked’ Israelis. As a result, all over the Muslim world, Muslims are in a hysterical frenzy posting on media, social media, writing, and exposing the ‘evil’.
There is a clear distinction between the faith of Islam and Islamism which uses religion for political purposes. Islamism emanates from a political interpretation of the faith, using violence as a tool to forward their subversive agenda of imposing draconian laws (sharia) and 7th century practices like armed jihad which are no longer valid in the 21st century.
On Monday Austrian police confirm a terrorist attack has taken place near a synagogue in central Vienna that has so far injured or killed several people, but the exact numbers is still not yet known.
The next few weeks will be the true test though. Macron and the French people need to decide whether they are willing, or not, to fight Islamism in the long term and reject the fear culture that comes with speaking out and taking action against the extremists’ views.
