Multiple sources within the Conservative party, who wish to remain anonymous, have reached out to The National Telegraph to talk about a potential backroom deal between Jean Charest and Patrick Brown in the upcoming leadership race.
This move by Trudeau and Freeland was completely unnecessary. It was forced and indicative of a regime that is concerned their grip on power is slipping despite the perceived ‘threat’ being a peaceful protest in Ottawa that an Ontario judge had ruled to be lawful.
Just today Freedom Convoy organizer Benjamin Dichter was messaged by Sarah Smellie journalist from Canadian Press asking him to answer “people who study” far-right movements who are accusing him of being an “extremist” and or a “white nationalist.”
Trudeau’s approval rating falling in the wake of the Freedom Convoy and Emergencies Act debacle seems to indicated Canadians believe his aggressive rhetoric, use of police resources against the protesters, and freezing of their bank accounts, constitutes a scandal. And this scandal looks like it actually may do permanent damage to Trudeau and the Liberal Party.
The great lie around the invocation of the Emergencies Act was totally shattered in testimony before the House of Commons finance committee. Barry MacKillop, deputy director of FINTRAC (Canada’s financial monitoring agency) testified under oath that financial support for the Freedom Convoy 2022 organization came from everyday Canadians fed up with COVID restrictions and was not terrorism or money laundering.
What has been more telling about the Freedom Convoy’s popularity is the polling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Because Trudeau was undeniably harsh on the truckers and convoy supporters protesting in Ottawa, seeing his disapproval rating spike during the protest was particularly insightful into people’s true feelings about the convoy.
There has been a long list of ridiculous accusations thrown at the Freedom Convoy by the legacy media to discredit it, but “Phantom Honking” may yet be the most ridiculous.
President Donald Trump during his speech at CPAC 2022 in Miami Flordia called out Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the physical violence and slanderous rhetoric used against the Freedom Convoy truckers and their supporters.
The NDP is fundamentally, or should fundamentally be a left-leaning workers’ party. In theory, its base should be a combination of idealistic left-wing university-educated urbanites, as well as public and private sector union workers. Under the leadership of Jagmeet Singh, the NDP has deepened its support in the first category but lost out on the second one. Failing to stand up for the rights of the truckers probably permanently damaged that blue-collar support.
You are talking to a middle-class Canadian man or woman who is double vaccinated but still gave $50 to the freedom convoy because they wanted to end the mandates and passports. How do you convince them that their money would be safe in a Canadian bank?
