Edmonton Councillor pens letter calling for end to COVID-19 state of emergency

The SOLE was originally supposed to last for seven days, but has been continuously renewed up until this point. As of this evening, the city council voted again to extend the SOLE, 12-1, with Councillor Dziadyk being the only opposing vote.

Alberta’s COVID-19 models way overestimated the impact

Alberta is far over-performing on COVID19, the province has consistently shown lower infection and hospitalization numbers than predicted. It isn’t known how much of an impact social distancing and lockdowns have had on the virus but it can be partly thanked for the incredibly flat curve the province has been keeping on COVID19 infections.

Edmonton Man and others around the world weaponize alleged COVID-19 infections

An Edmonton man was charged with two counts of assault for allegedly repeatedly coughing on a city bus driver as well as two Edmonton Transit peace officers when they came to arrest him for the incident. Daniel Black (38), due to his blatant disregard of quarantine laws, was also charged with hindering an order of the chief medical officer under the Public Health Act due to Black admitting to having tested positive for COVID19.

Eagle Spirit will kick start economy, employing tens of thousands

While the Keystone XL addition is expected to create 7,000 jobs, 5,600 which are in construction, Eagle Spirit will create tens of thousands more jobs. Approximately 130,000 in construction and 34,000 permanent positions, according to a Facebook post by Calvin Helin. That could rise to as much as 170,500 permanent positions if production doubles in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin – Canada’s major crude oil-producing region.

Premier Kenney just yesterday predicted, based on the information from his health officials, Alberta may not reach the peak of the pandemic until May, which may require the province to stay in a state of lockdown longer than many other jurisdictions.

Calgary MLA Devinder Toor stands up for local small businesses

For small business owner and Member of Legislative Assembly, Devinder Toor, relief for small business could not come soon enough.

“From small business owners to blue-collar workers, everybody is worried,” says Toor. “I am receiving a lot of calls from my constituents, with the vast majority unsure how long they can keep their doors open.” According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, the average cost that COVID-19 has had on small businesses amounts to $160,000 and continues to climb.

Alberta Energy War Room funding was gutted for COVID19

The centre will not be running on a daily operating budget of only $7,800, down from $82,000, for three months until it will be reconsidered whether or not to return to regular levels of funding, depending on the severity of the situation regarding COVID19.
