Ontario Premier Doug Ford since the evening yesterday has been conducting a full-scale attack on the Freedom Convoy 2022.
First attempting to freeze and or seize the funds of the Freedom Convoy through a court application that declares it is illegal to “deal with” any of the money sent to the organization.
GiveSendGo, the current main fundraising platform for the convoy, said that Canadian courts have no jurisdiction over it, but the Ontario government’s court application would also apply to the convoy organizers using any of the funds sent to them by GiveSendGo.
Know this! Canada has absolutely ZERO jurisdiction over how we manage our funds here at GiveSendGo. All funds for EVERY campaign on GiveSendGo flow directly to the recipients of those campaigns, not least of which is The Freedom Convoy campaign.

The next action Ford’s PC government took this morning was both declaring a state of emergency over Ontario, and increasing maximum fines for blocking critical infrastructure (which includes sidewalks for some reason) to $100,000 and potentially 1 year in prison.
The suspension of driver’s licenses was also included as a possible penalty for not ending the current protests.
Premier Doug Ford announces Ontario is entering a state of emergency. The premier outlined how protesters could face fines of $100,000 and a year in jail, saying that "there will be consequences for these actions."

At the exact same time, Ford was announcing these draconian actions to dissuade people from continuing to protest he promised that restrictions and the passport system would be removed very soon.

Clearly, this is a very hollow promise to remove restrictions when his main goal seems to be trying to force protesters to go home. He is offering a fake carrot while beating protesters with a stick.
It seems like Doug Ford is acting as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s attack dog against the Freedom Convoy after Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson weakened against the convoy and called for the federal government to engage in negotiations with the convoy organizers.
Mayor @JimWatsonOttawa tells @CTVOttMornLive he is calling on @JustinTrudeau government to appoint a mediator to end the convoy. "An honest broker on both sides to find common ground, if that's possible."

Watson had also called for a state of emergency over the city of Ottawa and pressured the original Freedom Convoy’s crowd-funding platform (GoFundMe) to remove their fundraiser.
This heavily backfired on Watson. The second weekend that the convoy was in Ottawa was even more heavily attended than the first weekend, which seems to be why Watson then caved and asked the federal government to negotiate through a mediator.
Based on a source inside the Ottawa Police, The National Telegraph was told that Watson’s actions likely contributed to a staff sergeant resigning and a steep increase of Ottawa police officers taking stress leave, vacation days, and sick days.
Ford despite being a Progress Conservative politician has been quite warm with Justin Trudeau over the last couple of years, even seeming to help him win reelection in 2021 by distancing himself from Erin O’Toole and complementing the Liberals leadership during COVID.
Congratulations @JustinTrudeau on your re-election. Now is the time for everyone on Team Canada to work together on our shared goals and priorities, while promoting much needed healing and unity.

It seems like Doug Ford and the Ontario PC Party are playing political games with the Freedom Convoy, both pretending to be moderate by claiming they will end restrictions while going after the protesters with massive penalties.
They are obviously trying to position themselves to win the 2022 Ontario provincial election, and oddly enough their strategy seems to include trying to run cover for Trudeau’s Liberals.
The Liberals’ own unwillingness to remove federal vaccine mandates and COVID restrictions have caused them to have three of their own MPs call them out for being divisive and not letting Canadians get back to normal.
One wonders what is motivating Doug Ford to act in this bizarre way and what kind of political relationship he has with Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party.

I thought these truckers just a fringe minority that don’t represent the will of the Canadian people. But you need a state of emergency and to shut them down? You must be wimps in government and want dictatorship to keep your power over the people of Canada. Talk about not representing the people of Canada. You want your government to suck like the US government?
