Jagmeet Singh – The Fancy Clown

The most recent Jagmeet Singh Twitter controversy, a photo with his very young daughter in a very expensive Canada Goose jacket,  is a very classic Jagmeet Singh style scandal. If there ever was a perfect embodiment of the term “champagne socialist” it would be federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh.

This is not the first time Jagmeet Singh’s taste in the finer things in life has come to the forefront. The man has multiple Rolexes, dresses in the finest suits, and drives luxury cars. He is a man born into wealth who likes fancy things, there is nothing wrong with that. Personally, I have no desire for luxury items, but we all have our vices and that is ok.

The problem is, Jagmeet Singh and his political party’s main talking point is that people who have luxury items are evil and stole their wealth from the rest of us. So when Jagmeet Singh posts a picture of his toddler in a Canada Goose jacket when the majority of Canadians are financially hurting you just have to shake your head. We know that the toddler does not care about what jacket she is wearing, it is a reasonable assumption that 90% of her thoughts are related to toys and/or candy.

What makes his behaviour so frustrating to many Canadians, who could usually care less about the NDP, is Singh’s perfect blend of hypocrisy and cluelessness. Jagmeet Singh and the NDP caucus talk constantly about the “record profits” of large companies while workers are making less money due to inflation, despite the NDP voting for policies that created runaway inflation. Singh has the audacity to criticize a company for giving its CEO a raise, while Singh supports nearly every effort to place more taxes on Canadians. 

If Jagmeet Singh’s problems were just confined to his financial hypocrisy that would be one thing, he certainly would not be the first socialist politician to live a lavish lifestyle. However, every few months Jagmeet Singh does something that makes me wonder if he is a real person and not a meme created by a group of teenagers on 4chan.

Recently, Singh put out a standard political video. Since it is Canada, he put out an English video and a French video. The problem was that for the French video he took out the Canadian flag. Did he not think that anyone would notice? How insulting is that to French Canadians who believe in national unity?

Everything about Jagmeet Singh is ridiculous. This is the man whose political career started by needing three tries to call the biggest terrorist attack in Canadian history, the Air India bombing, an act of terror. His support for Sikh separatist extremists who promote violence against Hindus is par for the course for those who market themselves as intersectional critical theorist activists. 

The most fascinating aspect of Jagmeet Singh is that he seems to be a litmus test for just how far the leniency from the media goes for those on the political Left in Canada. Earlier this year the NDP entered into a deal with the Liberals (99% of what an official coalition would be) to keep them in power until 2025. Yet despite this, he has the audacity to constantly ramble on about the Liberal-Conservative establishment and its hold on Canadian politics. 

In the age of such political anger and polarization sometimes it is hard to see the good in the system. My advice to people on the Right who are frustrated with our politicians is just to look at Jagmeet as a clown in a three-piece suit. Just sit back and watch the show as he burns down his own party while seriously stating he will be prime minister one day.
