No more everything made in China

China has continued its expansion into the South China Sea during this coronavirus pandemic and has continued excursions into Philippines water. While this news made all the mainstream media sources, it didn’t capture anyone’s attention because of the worldwide corona pandemic. This crisis has been a great cover for the Chinese government as it continues to pursue its own interests. 

By all accounts, China’s COVID numbers have been falsified. In a population of 1 billion, it’s hard to believe that their numbers of new cases have been so low.  The numbers of the tests they have done, have not been revealed to the rest of the world. 

Countries like India who have a comparable population have at least made their figures public. While the numbers of tested people are very small compared to their population, the fact that countries like India have shared its stats must be acknowledged as an important move in international cooperation. 

Prior to the crisis, it can’t be said that Canada and the States had good relations with China, considering they imprisoned two innocent Canadians. The two jailed Canadians in China live in prison conditions while a Chinese citizen lives in house attest in a mansion in Vancouver. What does that say about the respect they have or Canada?

The list of grievances against China can go on and on so let’s cut to the chase.  It’s time to re-evaluate this relationship with China. 

We need to start demanding that Walmart, Superstore, Best buy, etc currently start reporting which percentage of goods are produced by each country. From this, we demand that they begin to decrease the number of goods sold that are produced in China, and other dictatorship countries and increase the number of Canadian producers and devote a certain percentage of each product only be produced locally.

So for example, if 90% of shorts are made in China, we want to see that number decrease in the next 10 years, so that only 20% of the shorts are made in China and the remaining are made in Canada. 

This will require lots of self-discipline on that part of us the consumer. It means we will have to spend a bit more money on these items, but it does mean that we would get much better quality and be supporting Canadian companies. That way our own industry grows, and we will be better prepared for emergencies in the future. It also means that we no longer will be dependent on China for everything.
