Add another item to your list of; did Justin Trudeau really think he could get away with that? Serial blackface performances, sexually assaulting female reporters, multiple ethic violations, and all the rest. Now add surfing in Tofino while lying about being in Ottawa on the first-ever Truth and Reconciliation day.
This move by Trudeau is truly flabbergasting. Did he really expect no one to look for him yesterday after he and the Media made such a huge deal out of this new holiday, which Trudeau himself created?
The PMO tried to make it seem like his trip to Tofino was not Trudeau skipping out on the holiday despite having the only thing listed on Trudeau’s itinerary that he was taking personal meetings in Ottawa as if he was respectfully meeting with Indigenous Canadians and or dealing with other important matters all day.
For the millions of Canadians who took part in yesterday’s events with the solemn resolve to pave the pathway towards reconciliation, they are understandably furious with Trudeau. He absolutely failed them as a leader yesterday.
For people like me, who argued that framing a holiday centred around the Indigenous in a negative light and then granting a day off work sets Canadians up for failure long-term, this is probably the most emphatic “I told you so” of my entire career. I just did not expect the Prime Minister to pull this stunt on day one.
Global News caught up with Justin Trudeau, who was vacationing in Tofino on Canada's first National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
His official itinerary placed him in "private meetings" in Ottawa.

Ultimately this comes down to a pattern of behaviour for Trudeau, the man is all talk and no action. He invents a holiday meant to be a solemn day of reflection, essentially a secular Yom Kippur (Jewish day of atonement) with a collectivist twist, yet he can’t be bothered to show up.
I really do feel bad for the Indigenous Canadians who put stock in Trudeau here and believed in the goals of True and Reconciliation day, they did not deserve this slap in the face. But again, what did you expect after 6 years of this behaviour?
