Trudeau Claims Closing Illegal Roxham Road Crossing Will Not Stop Arrival of “Asylum Seekers”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today made a baffling statement about illegal border crossings and his supposed inability to stop them from occurring.

On Wednesday Quebec Premier François Legault demanded that Trudeau close the irregular border crossing at Roxham Road for illegal migrants, saying that the province does not have the ability to care for the migrants coming over the border while their refugee claims are processed.

In the face of Legault’s reasonable criticism against a border crossing that enables illegal migration and puts pressure on Canadian taxpayers to foot the bill for those who supposedly are unsafe in the United States, Trudeau made excuses for doing nothing.

Trudeau stated, “If we close Roxham Road, people will cross elsewhere. We have an enormous border, and we’re not going to start arming or putting fences on it.” Trudeau then proceeded to argue that the illegal crossing makes things safer as it allows for the RCMP to conduct safety verifications, and ensures that illegal migrants are not “lost and illegal in Canada.”

Of course, what Trudeau is saying is nonsense. Since the opening of Roxham Road Canada has been getting a massive influx of illegal migrants (16,000 in 2019) which was not an issue before the crossing was approved to operate. It is patently ridiculous to assume that without the Canadian government rolling out the red carpet for illegals that the number of individuals crossing would be no different.

It is not just the official border crossing for illegals that is incentivizing crossings, but also the Trudeau Liberals having taxpayers flip the bill for housing and food that is clearly a big draw for migrants to make flimsy claims of being refugees.

This whole issue between Justin Trudeau and François Legault really just goes to show the radical pro-immigrant views Trudeau and his Liberal government hold. No matter how little merit someone has to immigrate or claim refugee status in Canada Trudeau will find a way to welcome them in and have Canadian taxpayers subsidize their stay.
