The Toronto Sun Wants Pierre Poilievre To Be More Like Erin O’Toole

Never underestimate a Red Tories’ deep desire to lose an election.

Despite Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre leading the party to a 9-10% lead over Justin Trudeau’s Liberals, the Toronto Sun’s editorial board is here to beg Poilievre to stop being so interesting and effective.

It is mindboggling that the Toronto Sun can see all the fruit of Poilievre’s leadership style and they can still think to themselves “Why can’t he be a loser like Erin O’Toole.”

Supposedly the Toronto Sun thinks that because the Conservatives are clobbering the Liberals in the polls right now, the Liberals are likely to train all their fire on Poilievre personally, and for some reason, Poilievre should just take it.

The Sun article reads:

[The Liberals] next strategy will be to go negative on Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre. When a government has nothing left to offer by way of policy, a sure strategy is to make personal attacks on their opponents…

…We urge Poilievre to rise to the occasion and not take the bait. He’s auditioning to be prime minister. In an ever more complicated world, Canadians are looking for better leadership than what we’ve seen in recent years.

Although the Toronto Sun’s editorial board takes some jabs at “fancy socks” Trudeau and says they just want Poilievre to come across as a professional, a later quote from the article reveals they want Poilievre to slip into blandness.

The article states:

On the domestic front, we want sound fiscal policies that will restore the economy and bring back hope to young people that they have a future here. We’re nostalgic for the time when this country was respected around the globe as a voice of common sense.

Sadly, it often seems as if Poilievre and the people around him stoop to levels of silliness that don’t augur well for someone selling himself as a national leader.

To summarize what they are saying; the Toronto Sun does not want Poilievre to speak about social issues, just allow the Left to keep winning on that front, and not engage in the political debates that matter to average people, defined here as “silliness.”

They basically want Poilievre to act like Erin O’Toole. Talk only of mild economic reform, smile, and when in doubt stab your own party members in the back on hot-button issues to avoid negative coverage from the legacy media.

This is a losing attitude.

Pierre Poilievre received the most votes in his leadership race than any other party leader in Canadian history, and this came from addressing the issues and concerns that the Toronto Sun thinks are “silliness.”

The Toronto Sun is just deeply out-of-touch, Poilievre taking jabs at Justin Trudeau and the Liberals at rallies is entirely above board, and signals to voters that he understands their mindset toward the current political establishment.

Poilievre built his career by repeatedly asking Liberal politicians simple questions average Canadians suspect they cannot answer, even when pressed. He knows people want someone to cut through the nonsense and flowery language and just explain how he will get Canada out of the mess Justin Trudeau has created.

I personally think Poilievre should be intensifying his criticisms of the Liberals. Canadians are obviously reacting well to his take-no-prisoners style because the Conservatives before Poilievre were playing far too soft-handed with the Liberals, despite all the corruption, terrible policies, and disrespect for Canada and its history.
