National Firearm Association (NFA) Executives have found this effort to release prisoners during the COVID19 pandemic concerning and hypocritical after the Liberals’ advocacy for stricter gun laws and bans of “assault-style weapons” after the recent shooting rampage in Nova Scotia, committed by an assailant who did not possess a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL).
CTV News took the criticism of Dr. Tam, and decided to leave out all context to Sloan’s complaint and dubbed it a “race-based verbal attack” with only a three second clip cut out of context of Sloan asking if Dr. Tam worked for Canada or China.
Trudeau’s reactionary push for more gun laws today also seems quite out of step with his own Minister of Public Safety Bill Blair who said just two days ago that he wants to avoid any suggestion of politicization of the tragedy.
First term Democratic Representative of New York’s 14th congressional district, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, tweeted out today, in a now deleted tweet that “You absolutely love to see it” in response to the falling oil price and market contractions.
Alberta is far over-performing on COVID19, the province has consistently shown lower infection and hospitalization numbers than predicted. It isn’t known how much of an impact social distancing and lockdowns have had on the virus but it can be partly thanked for the incredibly flat curve the province has been keeping on COVID19 infections.
COVID19 is a severe issue, and every country should be taking reasonable precautions to avoid unnecessary social gatherings and non-essential forms of work that require in-person social interactions. It seems though that the response to COVID19 has become a relatively black and white issue to many.
