Dr. Lewis: “New immigrant communities overwhelmingly agree that the proper immigration channels, as outlined by the country itself, need to be followed. Many of them gave up everything to come to this country for a better life for themselves and their children. They sacrificed a lot and spent years waiting for their chance at a new start. When they see people breaking the rules and putting a strain on our infrastructures, such as our health care, housing and welfare system, some worked two to three jobs and never had the benefit that those jumping the queue are getting. And that’s causing a lot of resentment amongst immigrant communities.”
Right now, China is moving to ban “treason, secession, sedition and subversion” in Hong Kong, which is a way for the Chinese government to crack down on pro-democracy demonstrations and protests against the Communist Party of China (CCP) and undermine local law in Hong Kong.
The judge ruled that only the Leadership Election Organization Committee (LEOC) had the legitimate authority to eject Karahalios and other candidates from the Conservative leadership race. Today the CPC used their court recognized authority to re-eject Karahalios from the race.
As of today, Dr. Tam has not come out on behalf of the Public Health Agency and now officially recommends the use of non-medical masks out in public, when social distancing is not possible.
This morning Justice Perell, on Jim Karahalios’ lawsuit against the Conservative Party of Canada, ruled in favour of Karahalios and invalidated his disqualification from the Conservative leadership race. Justice Parell wrote, “I declare that the DRAC Decision Of March 18, 2020, to disqualify Mr. Karahalios’ as a candidate for the Conservative Party leadership was invalid, and I set aside the [Dispute Resolution Appeals Committee] (DRAC) Decision.” Karahalios announced some of the details in a campaign email and on Twitter shortly after the decision was handed down in the morning. He reaffirmed his position that the CPC should not be deciding who should and should not be in the leadership race and that membership should determine who they want as a leader through a vote.
Dziadyk advocated that Edmonton needs to step up its standards and be more strict with who gets city contracts to do roadwork based on past performance. He said, “Regarding the companies completing the work, they need to meet the standards that we set out, and they should not be re-awarded contracts if they do not perform,” which seems to be a public policy philosophy that has finally taken hold in Edmonton.
China’s favourability has been declining for a few years now, with it being at 48% in 2017, 38% in 2018, 29% in 2019, and now only 14% in 2020, which represents the largest decline in China’s approval in a single year in Canada.
Trudeau never suggested his position on the border staying open, but seems to be wanting to keep the border closed with his emphasis on keeping Canadians safe as his highest priority when considering the opening of the border.
Zimmer said, “Canadians have been very clear. They want action on crime, gangs and illegal firearms. That is why an e-petition that opposed using an Order in Council to ban firearms was the most signed e-petition in Canadian history. We have an outdoor community who safely utilize their firearms daily without incident. Yet this Prime Minister and Public Safety Minister Bill Blair would rather target us than real criminals.”
Manysiak said, “The Liberal government pushing the OIC through while parliament isn’t fully functional and before e2341 can be presented in the House of Commons shows how they feel about the democratic process. They have no respect for it. It’s an opportunistic and dictatorial move that borders on tyranny.”
