Alberta CPC MP’s Voted that Quebec can be a Nation Within a Nation. And You’re Going to Pay for it….

Bill C-96, some people in Western Canada will recall the title and possibly some of the details. Many will not. This bill was passed with little media attention on June 16th, 2021.

Below is text copied from the House of Commons bill summary:

That the House agree that section 45 of the Constitution Act, 1982, grants Quebec and the provinces exclusive jurisdiction to amend their respective constitutions and acknowledge the will of Quebec to enshrine in its constitution that Quebeckers form a nation, that French is the only official language of Quebec and that it is also the common language of the Quebec nation.

When discussing this bill, and as is the case with most things in government, what we are really discussing is the movement of our tax dollars. Spoiler alert for the rest of this article, seldom are we going to hear much about fewer tax dollars moving.  It is always a bottomless hole into which endless sums of tax dollars will not be enough.

Now the bill itself. It was tabled by a Bloc Quebecois MP, Yves-Francois Blanchet. Mr. Blanchet feels that the Province of Quebec is entitled to amend the Canadian Constitution as it sees fit, in the interest of preserving the French language within their borders. Not without irony, Mr. Blanchet seemed to be correct. When the final vote was held there were two Members of Parliament who voted against the bill. Both nay voting members were independents, their allegiance pledged to no party within the house.

Here now is the meat and potatoes part. Every single Western Conservative MP present that day voted Yay on Bill C-96. Every single one. In other words, every MP that we elected in 2019 to represent our peoples’ best interests found it appropriate to vote that Quebec should be permitted to establish its own country within Canada. This is where I have a hard time following their logic. I have asked several Alberta Conservative MP’s to explain their yes votes, to date I have not had a reply.

What this bill was is more pandering to Central and Eastern interests. You see, for the Conservative Party to keep any seats in Ontario and East they need to pander to those seat-rich areas. Our Alberta MP’s claim to be representing us here. They are not, they are doing what the Party whip suggests which is to pander to Quebec.

As a born and raised Western Canadian I have had enough. I have had enough of electing Conservatives in our ridings only to have them do what they think it takes to keep Central and Eastern interests appeased.

Bill C-96 is but one example. There are many more, some worse, that show very clearly that we need Western representation. We need our elected officials to represent their ridings, not Quebec. This is why I am running for the Maverick Party in Red Deer-Mountainview. I hope we can count on your support; we need to improve life for our Western Canadian citizens. The fact is, only the Maverick Party will do that. We must not leave our best interests up to the Conservative Party any longer. They’ve proven again they are not up to the task.

So why not name the CPC members who voted against western interests? Is this story more headline than substance?

Wow talk about misrepresenting the truth! The truth is they all but one voted for it! Lucky enough we had great representation from the west to vote yes! This not only give Quebec the right to use section 45 to amend it’s constitution but GIVE THE SAME RIGHTS to all provinces including ALBERTA! Hard to believe a so called Western Conservative party (Maverick party) would promote such a misleading story which would be on the brink looked at as a lie!!!!! Now if the conservatives had voted against extending the same rights to all provinces including ALBERTA now there might be grounds for the separatist parties! People need to do their own research to find the whole story which usually leads to the truth! Shame on the Maverick party and the separatists to mislead the conservative minded people of this great country!

    Good idea!

East is east, west is west and never the twain shall meet. A very apt quote.

The sooner Quebec separates from the rest of Canada, the sooner the west can dump Ontario and we can be rid of them.
