Starting around 7 pm local time in Tehran, the capital of Iran, reports, and videos have started to emerge about shots being fired inside Evin Prison. For reference, Evin Prison is the most notorious prison under the control of the Islamic Republic famous for being the destination of high value political prisoners.

Personally, I have friends who have been tortured by the IRCG inside Evin prison, and many Canadians will know it as the place where journalist Zahra Kazemi was sent to be raped and killed by the regime. Evin prison is a symbol of the regime’s power where dissidents often disappear.
Currently, there are fires raging at the prison and the regime forces have surrounded the area trying to keep civilians from reaching the prison. Reports of Basiji forces massing around the city and using violence against civilians to disperse the people on the street.
Right now we do not have a definitive answer as to what started the situation, whether it is a regime-instigated incident to justify a massacre or an uprising from the political prisoners remains to be seen.
I lived in Atisaz towers, across from Evin prison. I spoke now to a friend there and could hear-as reflected in this video-cries of 'death to Khamenei' and gunshots. Evin is full of political prisoners, including US citizens. Their families are terrified. pic.twitter.com/Xmvug6w2VK

There is also a developing incident at Sharif University as well in Tehran with more reports of shots being fired at civilians.
This could be a pivotal point in the revolution because if there is a successful liberation of the prisoners inside Evin Prison that would be the Iranian equivalent of the storming of the Bastille and a sign that the regime’s days are numbered. So far no matter how much violence has been used against protesters, the people of Iran still have not backed down.
UPDATE: At 2:30am local time a massive explosion in the area was heard by witnesses
UPDATE 2: At 3:36am local time a massive explosion was set off in the western part of Tehran about 5km from Evin prison. Now the regime has the Quran playing on all the loudspeakers across the city as people are still on the streets.
