The United Conservative Party recently rolled back the draconian lockdowns they had Albertans under for much of the last year, falling back in line with what their voter base was demanding of them, and as a sign that the UCP finally did the right thing, the NDP immediately demanded a public inquiry into the handling of the pandemic.
The Alberta NDP Deputy Leader Sarah Hoffman regarding the full reopening of Alberta that:
A full public inquiry is necessary because it allows Albertans to understand what happened over the course of this pandemic and to plan for the future, so we don’t make the same deadly decisions again when we face another pandemic or another public emergency.
What the NDP is essentially doing is accusing the UCP and especially Alberta Health Minister Tyler Shandro of bending to political pressure and reopening the province with zero evidence that it is safe. In reality, there was little evidence COVID-19 posed enough of a public health threat to have put in place the vast majority of the public health restrictions.
Minister Shandro answered back to the NDP’s push for an inquiry into his, and Premier Jason Kenney’s, recent decision to reopen the province, highlighting that there is a report that will be published explaining that it is currently safe for Alberta to be open.
Shandro stated that:
Given the interest in the report, the full report will be posted earlier than planned in the interest of full transparency… The NDP’s only objective is to politicize the pandemic with witch hunts that would stretch out for months, even years. What the NDP wants is a backward-looking, political circus that serves nobody. We’re focused on moving on from COVID, rebuilding the economy, and creating jobs and opportunities for all Albertans.
Ironically enough one of the recent NDP tactics to try and put pressure on the UCP to put Albertans back under lockdowns and mask mandates has been holding large public rallies advocating for policies that would ban such rallies from taking place.
Joe Vipond an Albertan MD and progressive activist associated with NDP front groups like the Calgary Climate Hub has been trying to hold large, often not very well attended, rallies in downtown Calgary and at the provincial legislature, which the legacy media has been covering as if Vipond’s push against reopening the province is at all popular.
Nice picture.

Also ironically enough Vipond is pushing for mask-mandates to be put back into place, despite the fact whenever he gets a closeup with the media he doesn’t feel the need to keep his mask on.
Vipond claims he has no connection with the Alberta NDP and is just a concerned doctor but donation records show he has given over $20,000 to the party over the years, which the legacy media has neglected to report so far.
There is indeed a very coordinated effort from the Alberta NDP, its activists, and the legacy media to pressure the Alberta government into placing Albertans under more draconian lockdowns, no matter what the negative effects are on people’s lives.
When there is no evidence that COVID-19 at this point poses a major threat to Albertans, at a time when everyone who wanted a vaccine has already gotten one, it makes one wonder if the NDP just simply dislikes Albertans exercising their rights and freedoms and prefers everyone to be reliant on government?
