Queen’s Cancels Sir John A. MacDonald

Today Queen’s University announced that it will be removing the name of Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A MacDonald, from their law building, MacDonald Hall.

It has become official as the board of trustees approved the decisions made by Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane following his acceptance of recommendations made by Mark Walters, Dean of Faculty of Law, and a report from a special committee set up to consider the situation.

Deane stated that:

This decision is grounded in the university’s present-day academic mission and commitment to honour the values of equity, diversity, and inclusivity and to ensure all students, faculty, and staff feel welcome within the Queen’s community, It also supports our commitment to take action to address systemic racism and ensure every member of our community may enjoy the benefits of our institution equally.

Queen’s University, which is considered one of the best in the country, is now of the belief that the name of the founder of our nation promotes “systemic racism”.

Queen’s claims to have conducted a thorough review of these proposals, which quite possibly the best evidence of the dangers of Critical Theory and widespread capitulation to the radical Left within academia.  It is highly unlikely that the majority of the people relied upon for this study truly believe in canceling Canada’s first prime Minister, as it is a pretty fringe belief.

What is more possible is that the committee self selected a group that already confirmed their political beliefs, or that dissenting academics felt too threatened to voice their detracting opinions.

Whatever the process involved, it is now the opinion of one of the historic institutions of this country that the very name of Sir John A MacDonald is a danger to indigenous and “racialized” people.

If nothing else, this should end the debate over whether “Cancel Culture” is just a fringe element of the radical Left, unless you want to argue that Universities are just indoctrination centres of the radical Left and are not relatable to the wider public.
