After the Liberals took an uncharacteristically strong position on the COVID19 and shuttering the borders from foreign travelers, they made a strategic blunder, effectively admitted to facilitating illegal immigration.
In the past Trudeau’s Liberal government has mainly played down the issue of illegal immigration, labelling the illegals as “irregulars” or “asylum seekers” despite all evidence pointing to illegally crossing the border being mainly used as a loophole to quickly gain citizenship.
Minister of Security and Organized Crime Reduction in 2018, Bill Blair, asserted that the 67% of Canadians who thought that the issue of illegal immigration to Canada was a ‘crisis’ were simply uninformed.
Blair said, “Canadians have a misperception of the number of people coming and the circumstances under which they are coming.” which makes it seem as if illegal immigration is low, hard to police, and not motivated by economic opportunism.
In reality Canada between February of 2017 and September of 2019 had 45,000 claimed asylum seekers cross the border between official border crossings. That would be around 47 migrants crossing the border per day, which is not exactly a rarity, especially as most cross over in the same geographic location into Quebec.
The Liberals were trying to portray that somehow this illegal immigration problem was in no way their fault and was simply happening to them; everyone crossing the border had a legitimate asylum claim despite not declaring it at an official border crossing.
The current COVID19 pandemic recently shattered that narrative.
Just yesterday Bill Blair, now the Minister of Public Safety, stated that despite all other Canadian borders closing the illegal border crossings will continue to be allowed and screenings for COVID19 will be performed on the illegals.
Blair said that, “Because of the need for the 14-day isolation, we are now making separate arrangements for those individuals to be placed in appropriate shelters in order to accommodate the requirement for the period of isolation,” showing elaborate planning has been made in order to accommodate further illegal crossings at this time.
This is in spite of Prime Minister Trudeau stating on Monday that, “We will be denying entry to Canada to people who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents.” actions which were cited as being effective in flattening the infection curve.
This is a complete contradiction of what the Liberals had been saying in the past. Not only does this show that the Liberals acknowledge they have been actively facilitating illegal immigration into Canada, but it shows they have a positive view of the illegal crossings by allowing it to continue during a global pandemic.
Yes, Minister Blair finally conceded illegal border crossers/asylum claimants still being allowed into Canada at Roxham Road, Quebec back door. He didn’t provide details on most recent crossing numbers, anticipated new costs of quarantine or explain this foreign entry loophole. https://t.co/p8G4xTCxXv

If the Liberals actually cared about “asylum seekers” it would be deeply irresponsible to encourage border crossings at this time due to the dangers around the spread of COVID19.
The often repeated term “irregular border crossers” appears entirely hollow as this current situation has demonstrated that the government is aware of when illegals cross the border, so much so that they can provide medical screenings for COVID19 as they come across.
Migrants cannot be considered “irregular” when the Liberal government has recognized Roxham Road, between Vermont and Quebec, as being the illegal crossing hub like it’s an institution.
If the issue of illegal immigration had been purely organic, and not aided by the Liberals, they could not be so confident that screening illegal migrants along one rural Quebec road would be sufficient for protecting the Canadian public from COVID19.
Trudeau’s government prioritizing the continued flow of illegal immigrants into Canada each day shows a strange need to play the role of humanitarians despite other pressing matters.
Helping non-citizens break the law not only makes a mockery out of the rule of law in Canada, but it now risks exposing Canadians to further unnecessary spread of COVID19 by continuing to encourage illegal immigration during a pandemic.
The continued tolerance for a loophole to exist in Canada’s immigration system down Roxham Road was wrong before. Now it has become a complete farce as Canadian taxpayers will now pay for the quarantining services for migrants who will continue to cross the border illegally, with Trudeau’s blessing, while law abiding foreign travelers have been barred entry.
