The Trump Effect Exposes Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s Weakness

Why Doug Ford’s Progressive-Conservatives Harass Truckers and Continue to Ignore Threats Within Canada

Beginning the week of January 21, 2025, the Canadian trucking industry was thrown into chaos in Ontario, Canada. There was an unexplained and unprecedented exponential increase in safety enforcement, unlike anything previously seen in the trucking industry. The enforcement blitz appeared to be sparked by comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump, suggesting he would revisit a 25 percent tariff on all goods entering the United States from Canada.

Trump’s remarks sparked a reactionary wave of enforcement in Canada against Canadian truckers initiated by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. This allegedly came directly from Ontario Premier Doug Ford—head of a government, much like the previous Liberal government, that has long ignored the growing issues of organized crime, drug and human trafficking, and money laundering for terrorist groups operating in Canada. This is the same Doug Ford who sought a court injunction against Freedom Convoy donations, which remain under an Ontario Superior Court injunction to this day, thanks to Ford’s actions.

Doug Ford’s Two-Faced Approach

When President Trump publicly suggested revisiting his 25 percent tariff idea, Premier Doug Ford’s public strategy was to respond to Trump’s comments with threats. Yes, you read that correctly—Ontario’s leadership chose to publicly attack President Donald Trump, a man notorious for seeking retribution against anyone who criticizes him personally. It is fascinating to see politicians blatantly reveal how little they understand about negotiation, particularly when they fail to grasp who holds the dominant negotiating position.

The reality is that 80 percent of Canada’s economy is dependent on the United States. They are in the driver’s seat, whether we like it or not. If our misguided politicians believe we can somehow dominate them, I suggest they study the Punic Wars—something I suspect none of our provincial representatives have even heard of.

Did Justin Trudeau’s Foolish Comments Cost Canada Its Sovereignty?

The combative strategy against Trump is almost as foolish as when Canada’s blackface-impersonating, part-time Prime Minister Justin Trudeau exposed a critical weakness during a meeting at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence. When pressed about Canada’s vulnerabilities, Trudeau suggested that a 25 percent tariff would devastate Canada’s economy. Yes, you read that correctly—Justin Trudeau explicitly admitted to Donald Trump that a 25 percent tariff would cripple Canada.

Only a complete and utter fool would reveal their greatest weakness to someone they would inevitably need to negotiate with. Unsurprisingly, Trump reportedly responded, “Then you should become our 51st state,” and he has been more emboldened on the issue ever since. Bravo, Justin.

President Trump reaffirmed his intent to increase tariffs on Canada until the border is secure—a euphemism for tackling Canada’s crises of drug smuggling, human trafficking, political entryism by terrorist organizations, and money laundering by their proxies.

While Doug Ford has attempted to brand himself as a strong Progressive Conservative leader, his policies are arguably more left-wing than those of his Liberal predecessor, Kathleen Wynne. His government, equally reactionary and in a state of panic, has deployed Ministry of Transportation (MTO) officers from across Ontario to intercept trucks at the border for so-called “safety inspections” before they get remotely close to crossing.

According to sources within the MTO, these inspections are merely a pretext for searching for drugs, weapons, and evidence of human trafficking. This reaction appears to stem from fears that Canada’s lax approach to border security could give the Trump administration additional justification for imposing tariffs on Canada.

This raises an important question:s Who is truly to blame for the increased inspections and the resulting harassment of truckers?

Who Is to Blame for the Current Chaos in Canada?

  • Is it the fault of the Trump administration, responding to the rise in smuggling across the border?
  • Is it the fault of long-standing, complacent political leadership that has turned a blind eye—or, in some cases, been complicit—in organized crime, drug smuggling, and money laundering for terrorist organizations operating within Canada?
  • Is it the fault of extremist groups that have exploited the naivety of Canadians and used political entryism to gain influence within Canada’s federal, provincial, and municipal governments?

Who is the Minister in Charge?

In an ironic twist…
