The first Canadian Bitcoin conference has officially been announced and is scheduled for the June 17th-18th weekend of 2023 at the Chelsea Hotel in Toronto.
The Canadian event takes inspiration from the highly successful annual American Bitcoin Conference hosted by Bitcoin Magazine, historically in Miami Beach, Florida, but don’t expect the Canadian event to be a carbon copy of the American one. The Canadian event is likely to be a grassroots companion conference to Bitcoin Miami, the largest bitcoin event in the world.
In recent years, the U.S. conference has truly ballooned in size, garnering huge attendance numbers of over 10,000 Bitcoiners every year since 2020 when the event was canceled due to pandemic restrictions. The upcoming 2023 Miami event is expected to fetch 15,000 attendants and will be the largest on record, hosting keynote speakers such as Jordan Peterson, Michael Saylor, Republican Senator Cynthia Lumis, and other high-profile figures.
The consistent growth of attendees at conferences around the Bitcoin/freedom finance movement is growing significantly, and continued quantitative easing by central banks exacerbating inflation has only helped spawn interest from new Bitcoiners who only a few years ago would have completely dismissed the Bitcoin protocol.
“I think the big advantage of the Canadian Bitcoin Conference is; yes, there’s actual content geared toward new people,” said a co-organizer for the Canadian Bitcoin Conference who wished to remain anonymous but goes by the handle @PlateLicker_21z [Plate] on Twitter.
“But I think a big difference between Miami and any of these other conferences is [The Canadian Bitcoin Conference] is going to be orders of magnitude more intimate,” ‘Plate’ continued. “We’re really trying to create an open forum for a lot of the events… So if you have a question from the audience, you can raise your hand and ask that question. And with a max attendance of 400 people, you’re going to be able to make friends… It’s not a 25,000-person, blaring techno music type-of event.”
The 400-person limit will also allow for more direct engagement with the speakers themselves, some of whom include Bitcoin advocate & founder of LookingGlass Education Greg Foss, early investor, angel investor to Bitcoin companies, and podcast host Brad Mills, Bitcoiner & environmental activist Troy Cross, Editor-in-chief for Swan Bitcoin.com Tomer Strolight, as well as numerous other world-class guests.
The event should also be valuable to newcomers to the space, as they will get exposure to the basics of using a multi-sig Bitcoin wallet with Canadian Bitcoin influencer BTC Sessions so they can take direct custody of their Bitcoin, instead of leaving it on a custodial exchange.
The Bitcoin 101 event, too, taking place at the Canadian Bitcoin Conference, hosted by Jesse Berger, should also prove invaluable to anyone new to the space.
“I think the big advantage of the Canadian Bitcoin Conference is; yes, there’s actual content geared towards new people,” said ‘Plate.’

great writeup on the conference!
