Justin Trudeau Pressured Into Scrapping ArriveCAN And Mask Mandates

After more than a year of Justin Trudeau and the Liberals refusing to remove public health travel restrictions for purely political reasons, they finally caved today and officially announced the end to them all today.

Starting October 1st, the government will no longer enforce the following health restrictions or requirements:

• Submit public health information through the ArriveCAN app or website;

• Provide proof of vaccination;

• Undergo pre- or on-arrival testing;

• Carry out COVID-19-related quarantine or isolation;

• Monitor and report if they develop signs or symptoms of COVID-19 upon arriving to Canada;

• Undergo health checks for travel on air and rail;

• Or wear masks on planes and trains.

This comes on the heels of the Conservative Party electing Pierre Poilievre as its new leader, as well as certain Conservative MPs like Micheal Barrett criticizing the reasoning behind the restrictions for the past couple of months.

Seeing the Conservatives quickly start to outpace the Liberals in the polls likely also helped encourage the Liberals to finally drop their draconian approach to COVID or else risk future losses in the polls.

Indepdent journalist Rupa Subramanya had also, through the submission of FOIP requests, gotten access to details around how Transportation Minister Omar Alghabra and the Transportation Canada board made decisions regarding the enforcement of restrictions. Subramanya effectively exposed that there was either very little or no, scientific evidence cited for the restrictions, and nobody with any medical background, let alone virology background, was on Transportation Canada’s board or was even consulted. 

It seems like with all the media and political pressure to drop the travel restrictions and scrap the ArriveCAN app became too great to try and ignore the problem for political points.

Before it seemed as if Trudeau, Freeland, and Alghabra, were perfectly ok knowing the restrictions were worthless virtue-signaling policies and that keeping them in place could be used as a symbol for how “responsible” they were being. Now it seems that even the most politically disengaged Canadians and those who vote for the Liberal Party started to take issue with the restrictions when they started finally trying to travel outside of the country and realized how annoying and unscientific the restrictions and requirements were.

As a side note, The National Telegraph almost got the timeline for scrapping the ArriveCAN app exactly right. Almost a month ago we pretended it would just be a few weeks until Justin Trudeau was in a position where he could no longer justify ArriveCAN or any other public health restrictions.
