This Election is Showing Justin Trudeau and the Liberals are Political Amateurs

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may be considered a skilled politician seeing as he won a majority government back in 2015 against Stephen Harper, and still at least maintained a majority in 2019, but the reality is that Trudeau is the beneficiary not of natural political skill, but of a lot of lucky breaks.

Trudeau is terrible at holding a lead as he doesn’t know what got him to the front of the pack in the first place. In hindsight, it wasn’t that much of a shock that the Liberals won a majority in 2015 since, for whatever reason, voters had grown tired of Harper (and thought the CPC attacks on Trudeau were tasteless), and despite the NDP being the official opposition, without Jack Layton, they really were not that popular.

Since inheriting his majority in 2015, in 2019, and now in 2021 Trudeau has been on top, but doesn’t know how to campaign like he is on top, despite both Andrew Scheer and Erin O’Toole being considered fairly mediocre Conservative leaders. 

It was evident Trudeau doesn’t know how to campaign when he dropped the writ for this current election and talked about wanting to give Canadians a “choice,” which is a line you would use if you were in the opposition and demanding the minority government call a new election when Trudeau used the line it came off like the cheap excuse that it was. 

Trudeau and the Liberals then proceeded to go after Erin O’Toole as having a hidden pro-life agenda, which is absurd seeing as O’Toole, to the disappointment of much of the Conservative base, is a pro-choice hardliner. The Liberals in making their attack on O’Toole focused on the fact he is in favour of conscience rights for doctors and nurses, so they cannot be forced to perform abortions or euthanize someone. 

This was a ridiculous attack strategy because it immediately forced Trudeau and Liberals to backtrack since their attack would force them to support undermining conscious rights, since the Liberals actually have never directly moved to force doctors to administer procedures they did not want to do. 

Then just yesterday Chrystia Freeland in an attempt to use the other old Liberal attack on Conservatives posted a deceptively edited video that claimed O’Toole is against public healthcare and wants a two-tiered system.

Again, most Conservative voters would probably like much more access to private healthcare than we currently have, but the claim against O’Toole was still an abject lie and even Twitter had to label Freelands’ video as “Manipulated Media”.

Trudeau when confronted about his Finance Minister posting a manipulated video just doubled down on the lie and claimed they provided the full context to what O’Toole was actually saying.

There are loads of more examples of terrible Liberal campaign moves out there, including Trudeau’s inability to organize himself large campaign rallies, or deal with protesters at his events, and through-line with all of these is that the Liberals’ have no defence and only offence, and with little to swing at this election they are having to just make stuff up in such blatant ways that even the legacy media is forced to call them out.

If anything the incompetence of the Liberals should be frustrating the Conservative Party base because if the Conservative Party was running with a stronger and more conservative leader, they could be blowing out the Liberals in the current polls.
